🔴 This is one of our most favorite PhotoJournalism lenses, excellent for press announcements, event photography, those “Grin-n-Grab” shots at event receptions, architectural imaging including outdoor buildings, interior rooms, kitchens, and Product photography. With this super-wide design Colors and Saturation are amazing, image detail and resulution are very good even at the corners.

Note 🔷: One criterion that will earn a lens the coveted “L” designation is if it uses a ground-and-polished aspheric element. Canon, however, now mostly uses so-called “GMo” or glass-moulded aspherics. Although Canon did not invent GMo technology (likely Kodak), originally it was usable for only for very small-diameter lenses. Canon perfected the use of this technology for larger-diameter elements of the kind needed for somples SLR lens designs. GMo molded elements have a relatively high quality control rejection-rate, and are more expensive than ordinary spherical molded elements. However, GMo’s are much less expensive to mould, grind, polish, production (even with a higher rejection rate for the moulds) than ground-and-polished aspherical lense elements.
