GyroLens App is the Very Best 2nd Camera App, Automatic Leveling when Shooting on a Rocky Boat or Bike ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💙💙

May 29, 2013

GyroLens App is the Very Best 2nd Camera App, Automatic Leveling when Shooting on a Rocky Boat or Bike. GyroLens is a full-featured camera App that has a “killer array” of new and different features.

Primarily, when using this App, the image on your iPhone or iPad is automatically leveled. This “leveling” of the photos in done in real-time, while shooting, no imaging editing to get rid of that Lop-Sided, Tilted horizon. With gyroLens, you don’t need to worry about a crooked-aim or setting-up and taking level shots. The App does the Leveling for you.

+ A. Problems taking that perfect photo?
+ B. Can’t frame a straight shot?
+ C. Need help getting a level image?
+ D. Use GyroLens!

GyroLens brings a true point-and-shoot capability to iPad, iPhone, iSO devices, and makes photography easier and more fun. Shortly after release, the App was featured in iTunes “New and Noteworthy” in January 2011, “What’s Hot” in February 2011, and it has been part of iTunes “App Store Essentials”.

GyroLens gets its name by using the precision Gyroscope (housed in iPhone 4, iPad v3, v4, and iPod Touch v4) and the precision Accelerometer, to correctly and automatically frame a level shot from almost any scene. In addition to its unique Gyro capabilities, GyroLens is also a full-featured camera App, offering the following:

* Small, large, burst, and timer shot modes
* Manual tap-to-focus and exposure (iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4)
* Focus and exposure activity indicators
* Front camera (iPhone 4 and iPod 4) and rear camera
* Flash on/off/auto (iPhone 4)
* 1X, 2X, 4X zoom
* Portrait and landscape reference frames
* Gyro clip, fill, off modes
* Fast buffered image saves
* HUD on/off options
* Gyro/Accelerometer Calibration
* camera and location EXIF metadata
* Image Stabilization feature is not accessed with this Camera App
* HDR, high dynamic range feature, is not accessed with this Camera App

GyroLens is great for action shots, macro shots, self portraits, scene compositions, and situations where it’s hard to line up a level-accurate image, due to complicated terrain, bad position, poor aim, or lack of time to aim.
+ GyroLens frames a level 4:3 sub-image from the scene, with perfect alignment every time.

GyroLens Modes. GyroLens offers four different image correction modes. Corrections are applied 40 times per second, in real time, to extract level images from a scene:

Gyro Clip. This is the default mode in gyroLens 1.1 and later. In clip mode, gyroLens extracts a level 4:3 sub-image from a scene, continuously maximizing the size of the extracted sub-image to best fit the scene. Images taken in clip mode are saved at full quality (pixels are extracted directly from the original camera image). However, image size will vary picture to picture depending on how far the camera device is off-level when the shot is taken.

Gyro Fill. In fill mode, gyroLens extracts a level 4:3 sub-image from a scene, continuously maximizing the size of the extracted sub-image to best fit the scene. The sub-image is then resized (scaled) back to normal image size for the camera device in use. Because of the image resizing used in fill mode, quality can be reduced (similar to digital zoom). The main benefit of fill mode is that images are always saved in the same consistent size matching the normal camera resolution.

Gyro Mask. In mask mode, gyroLens extracts a level 4:3 sub-image from a scene. The sub-image covers the middle 60% of the frame and is fixed in size (the middle 60% of a 4:3 image forms a rectangle that will always fit inside the scene regardless of angle). Images taken in mask mode are saved at full quality (pixels are extracted directly from the original camera image). These images are always saved in the same consistent size, 60% of the normal camera resolution.

Gyro Off. In this mode, no level corections are made.

Bottom Line: The Apple provided App that comes with the iPhone and iPad, as packaged with Apple’s iOS is a great Camera App; However, if you want to make sure your “horizons” are perfectly “level” and you are shooting in a hurry, on a Boat, Ship, Beach, Bike, this App is Amazing.
