Apple iPhone Commands 39% of the Smartphone Audience that Surpassed 140 Million in May, 2013. For Apple to have earned over 39% of the all Smart Phone sales, when mearsured againse hundreds of competing models is quite amazing.

In this Table, notice BlackBerry 4.8% market share that is dropping by about 12% in this quarter period (math: 0.6/4.8 = 12%), which BlackBerry states in their last financial disclosure represents a loss of about 4,000,000 BB subscribers.

RESTON, VA, June 28, 2013 โ€“ comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released data from the comScore MobiLens service, reporting key trends in the U.S. smartphone industry during the three month average period ending May 2013. Apple ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer again with 39% market share, while Google Android led as the #1 smartphone platform with 52% platform market share.

Smartphone OEM Market Share. 141 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (59% mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in May, up 6% since February. Apple ranked as the top OEM with 39.2% of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 0.3% from February). Samsung ranked second with 23% market share (up 1.7%), followed by HTC with 8.7%, Motorola with 7.8% and LG with 6.7%, Blackberry with 4.8% did not rank high enough to be included in the OEM smartsphone’s ranking.

Smartphone Platform Market Share. Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in May with 52.4% market share (up 0.7% from February). Apple ranked second with 39.2% market share (up 0.3%), followed by BlackBerry with 4.8%, Microsoft with 3% and Symbian with 0.4%.

Smart Phone Activations is another major concern for Backberry going forward. When looking into these figures several quarters ago BlackBerry was loosing existing BB Subsrcibers at a rate of 1,000,000 each month, for the most recent quarter, BlackBerry’s Subscriber losses have accelerated to over 1,250,000/month, 4 Million for the quarter. This is a startling statistic, as these subscribers were the remaining loyalists, listening to the “Company Line” that were holding on until the Z10 came out. And now that the Z10 and the Q5 are out there, these most loyal subscribers are jumping ship, likely (my guess) for the iPhone-5 or the Qalaxy S3/S4.

Apple got into an established, competitive SmartPhone market 5 years ago in 2007 and amazingly Changed Everything. Apple’s iPhone has earned 1st Place with almost 40% market share, about Two Times the closest 2nd placer, with 23% market share with the Galaxy S3/S4. Oh by the way, Samsung cut its sales projections last week by 50% for their new S4 disappointment.
