1⃣ New Canon EF 100mm-400mm f/4.0-5.6L IS USM Autofocus Lens ready for 2013 Photokina Announcement. The new Canon EF 100mm-400mm Autofocus Lens is reported to be ready for the 2013 Photokina Announcement. Fluorite and Super UD glass completely eliminate secondary spectrum for superb color rendition. Autofocusing is very fast and silent with Canon’s ring USM, and AF speed is further enhanced through an advanced, lightweight rear focusing design that incorporates a floating element for consistent image quality at all focusing distances from 5.9′ to infinity.

Canon of significance is installing its latest 4-Stop Image Stabilization Unit into this new version. Canon’s New Lens is optically faster too, with a Maximum Aperture of f4.0 at 100mm. This represents a one-half-stop improvement of the original version 12 years ago. The fact that a Patent has been issued at f4.0 is a good signal that this new lens is more than a sporadic rumor.

2⃣ Other surprises, the front element will be 82mm to accommodate the new optical design, and the Image Stabilizer will be the newest 4-Stop capability, excellent for hand-held action sports shooting. We have been shooting with the original version of this lens for over a decade, one of our favortes. We will be first on line for this lens, once it is released later this year. Everyone thought this was going to be a 2014 lens announcement; we are delighted it will be shown sooner rather than later.
