1โƒฃ New Canon EF 100mm-400mm f/4.0-5.6L IS USM Autofocus Lens ready for 2013 Photokina Announcement. The new Canon EF 100mm-400mm Autofocus Lens is reported to be ready for the 2013 Photokina Announcement. Fluorite and Super UD glass completely eliminate secondary spectrum for superb color rendition. Autofocusing is very fast and silent with Canon’s ring USM, and AF speed is further enhanced through an advanced, lightweight rear focusing design that incorporates a floating element for consistent image quality at all focusing distances from 5.9′ to infinity.

Canon of significance is installing its latest 4-Stop Image Stabilization Unit into this new version. Canon’s New Lens is optically faster too, with a Maximum Aperture of f4.0 at 100mm. This represents a one-half-stop improvement of the original version 12 years ago. The fact that a Patent has been issued at f4.0 is a good signal that this new lens is more than a sporadic rumor.

2โƒฃ Other surprises, the front element will be 82mm to accommodate the new optical design, and the Image Stabilizer will be the newest 4-Stop capability, excellent for hand-held action sports shooting. We have been shooting with the original version of this lens for over a decade, one of our favortes. We will be first on line for this lens, once it is released later this year. Everyone thought this was going to be a 2014 lens announcement; we are delighted it will be shown sooner rather than later.

3โƒฃ Canon’s EF 100mm-400mm f/4 to 5.6L IS USM Autofocus Lens, an update to the current model, offers very high resolution, superb contrast, neutral color balance, and Canon’s updated, improved, built-in, 4-Stop Image Stabilizer function. High zoom magnification is achieved by means of a 6-group configuration with 5 movable groups.

6โƒฃ Canon’s EF 100mm-400mm IS lens is our favorite lens, bar none, for our imaging business, particularly with action-sports photojournalism. This lens combines the advantage of hand-held operation, very fast push-pull zooming capability, and reasonable cost to acquire. The original lens retails for US$1500. The new updated lens may have a higher price-tag, unknow at this time. If I were to guess at the release-price, lets say $1999. This lens is perfect for almost all action sports venues such as football, soccer, baseball, softball, swiming, diving, golf, and tennis. Take a look at our image site http://www.416-1100.com/FAU-Sports for example images using this terrific lens. This Canon Lens is one of canon’s most popular lenses, and came to market over 10 years ago; therefore it is “ready” for an optical and technology update.

Alternative professional ‘L” lenses. Here are a few to consider.

7โƒฃ Canon’s EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Lens is the perfect choice for nature, wildlife and sports photographers. The best current price for this new lens is $10,990. The lens is extremely light for its class and the Image Stabilization system offers up to four extra stops of performance. The EF 400mm f/2.8 IS II USM features Fluorite optics that deliver sharper images with less chromatic aberration, and Fluorine coating that keeps soiling, smears and fingerprints to a minimum. With a super-telephoto focal length, fast aperture and outstanding image quality, this lens provides reliability and exceptional results expected from the Canon line of L lenses.

8โƒฃ With a third Image Stabilization mode (Mode 3) that activates IS only when the shutter button is fully pressed, and giving the equivalent effect of a shutter speed four stops faster, the EF 400mm f/2.8 IS II USM allows for easy panning and is ideally positioned for professional action photography. Fast, quiet Auto Focusing (AF) is provided by a ring-type fast Ultra-Sonic Motor (USM), dedicated AF algorithms and a high-speed CPU, which offers quick and accurate focusing during shooting.

9โƒฃ Photographers can also utilize full-time manual focusing functionality, which enables the adjustment and fine-tuning of focus even when the AF system is activated, providing even greater control over image capture. The Power Focus mode aids focusing during video shooting, allowing the photographer to smoothly adjust focus during filming by twisting the focus recall ring. With a security slot for wire-type security locks, buttons and switches are redesigned for intuitive, deliberate operation, and dust and water sealing keeps the lens functioning flawlessly in even the most challenging environments.

๐ŸŒ Canon’s EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens improves upon its predecessor, one of the most acclaimed lenses in the Canon EF line, with superior performance, increased speed and optical quality, with a cost of $2,375. This lens is also equipped with an effective dual-mode Image Stabilizer suitable for panning as well as stationary subjects. We are told this lens is due for an update. This lens is also one of our favorites, where shanging lenses is just not possible. Mounted on a Canon 5D Mark III, 28mm wide angle is truly wide for group shots, and 300mm is perfect for reaching across the soccer field, or 3rd base, from the 1st base sideline.
