๐ŸŽ 38% of iPhone sales are Now Android & RIM Defectors, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners reports. FORTUNE โ€“ Here’s more evidence that Google’s (GOOG) Android is peaking and Research in Motion’s (RIMM) BlackBerry is headed further south.

๐ŸŽ In a survey released to CIRP clients Thursday, the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners found that, more iPhones were purchased in April by U.S. customers leaving Apple’s (AAPL) competitors than by owners of earlier iPhone models.

๐ŸŽ Of the customers who bought iPhones in April, according to CIRP: โ€ข 42% were switching from another smartphone, up from 36% in February. โ€ข 38% were coming from either Android or BlackBerry, up from 29%. โ€ข 34% were upgrades from earlier iPhones, down from 71% immediately after the iPhone 4S launch last fall. โ€ข 24% were switching from a feature phone or buying their very first mobile phone.

๐ŸŽ According to a new study released on Fortune by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, over the past year, โ€ข 20% of Appleโ€™s iPhone customers have been switching from an Android phone, but only โ€ข 7% of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltdโ€™s purchasers have owned an iPhone previously. โ€ข The findings have clearly reflected the inclination of customers towards the products of both companies.

๐ŸŽ The CIRP report is the most detailed one where Apple and Samsung are seemed to get their customers. The key findings of this report are that between July 2012 and June 2013,
โ€ข 42% of Appleโ€™s customers have been advancing from another iPhone;
โ€ข 43% of Samsungโ€™s customers have owned an Android phone previously, but not essentially the one prepared by Samsung; amongst the buyers who switched brands,
โ€ข Apple has gained three times more from Samsung (33%) as Samsung gained from Apple (11%);

๐ŸŽ Samsung has drawn more first-time smartphone buyers switching from so-called feature phones (37%) than Apple did (26%); amongst switchers, Samsung has drawn more customers from HTC Purenergy Inc. (CVE:HTC), Nokia Corporation ADR (NYSE:NOK) and Motorola (GOOG) whereas Apple has drawn more from Blackberry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY).

๐ŸŽ The CIRP survey has also compiled demographic data which shows that Appleโ€™s customers tend to be more affluent and well educated than of Samsungโ€™s, this finding is not much surprising as it is clear from the price tag and features of Apple iPhone. However, it is an astonishing fact that iPhone owners tend to be younger than as of Samsungโ€™s, with the idea of Samsungโ€™s โ€œnext big thingโ€ TV ad campaign.

๐ŸŽ For the above analysis, data is taken for the smartphone buyersโ€™ with the survey of four quarters ranging from July 2012 to June 2013. Each survey comprises of 500 subjects who bought a mobile phone in the earlier 90 days.
