β˜… Canon’s New 7D Mark II to have 20.2MP Dual Pixel Imager + GPS + WiFi Built in. We’ve heard of some specs of the EOS 7D Mark II surfaced this week, from very reliable sources.

β˜… The EOS 7D Mark II is expected to be announced September, 2014 at Photokina Event, Cologne, Germany, which is the Largest Photo Show globally, held every two years, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016…

β˜… These specifications confirms the 20.2MP sensor reported recently. Canon’s New dual-pixel technology will be incorporated into all of Canon’s new SLR releases including the 7D Mark II. This dual-pixel technology functions as a huge phase-detection auto focusing which is very accurate particularly with the mirror is UP, when the camera is in MOVIE Mode, or Live View still imaging.

β˜… I have been testing this feature on the Canon 70D, and the results are definitely a “GAME CHAGER” for CANON. Many DSLR users, self included, are using the HDTV, 1080p Movie Mode, as well as for high quality digital stills.

β˜… Present day β€œlazy focusing” during video capture using a SLR design of the 5D3 or the 7D is a big disadvantage when using Live-View. With Canon’s EOS 7D Mark II Dual Pixel imaging, true live-view auto-focusing capability is a reality, adding a quality dimension for Live-View Still imaging and sharp Video Clip capture even when the subject is constantly moving. When recording high definition video when you shift the lens from the subject-foreground to the background the lens very smoothly refocuses to the background, due to the excellent performance of the dual pixel phase detection system.

β˜… Dual Pixel Imaging, How it Works. The EOS 7D Mark II features a newly-designed Canon APS-C CMOS sensor with 20.2 million pixels. All effective pixels on the surface of the EOS 7D Mark II sensor consist of two individual photodiodes, which are read separately for phase-detection autofocus and together for imaging. Dual-Pixel CMOS AF is possible over 80% of the width and height of the Live View frame and is highly accurate without compromising on image quality.

β˜… Unlike other methods of sensor-based autofocus, which allocate either autofocus or imaging functions to pixels on the sensor, the pixels on the EOS 7D Mark II CMOS sensor can be used as imaging pixels and phase detection AF pixels. As a result, no additional imaging processing is required around pixels dedicated for AF, which ensures both quick acquisition of focus and maximum image quality.

β˜… By using this phase-difference AF technique the EOS 7D Mark II predicts the position the lens is in focus and moves it. By contrast, the more conventionally used contrast AF method looks for the focal position while moving the lens back and forth, so AF speed is much slower, not as smooth, as the lens “hunts” for fine focus. In low light this effect is exacerbated.

β˜… With face and object tracking engaged, Movie Servo AF follows a chosen subject as it moves, or when you recompose a shot. Alternatively, just select different focus areas by simply by tapping the touch-screen when recording.

β˜… Dual Pixel CMOS AF is compatible with 103 current EF lenses, spanning EF and EF-S, fixed focal length, wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The system marks a significant advancement in autofocus performance with greatly improved AF speeds.

β˜… We are Zacuto Fans, using the Z-FIND-PRO3 with our Canon 5D3 and Canon 7D cameras. Zacuto’s Z-Finder Pro 3x optical viewfinder is an excellent tool for shooting sharp, stable video on DSLR cameras like the Canon 5D MkII, 70D, 7D, Nikon D90, D300s and others.

β˜… Whether shooting handheld or on a tripod, the Z-Finder Pro turns your camera’s 3β€³ LCD screen into a clear, easy-to-focus viewfinder. This accessory lets you see your image in magnified detail even under the brightest sunlight. Just as crucially, the Z-Finder provides an extra degree of handling comfort and a crucial point of contact, between camera and eye, that adds stability to all our handheld videos.

β˜… The Z-Finder $360 attachment really transforms our Canon 70D, 7D2, 5D3, 1DX into a high performance Video Camera. It is very easy to remove, then your Canon EOS Digital camera returns to being a high quality still-image digital SLR.

As many of my friends, family and students know, I am an avid iPad adopter since its release April, 2010. With Apple’s release of the Retina-Display iPad Mini, (I sold my iPad 4 to Gazelle.com) applied the proceeds to purchase the "mini" with 128GB of Storage, AT&T connectivity, plus added Logitech’s UltraThin Keyboard Cover, and an ACME MADE San Francisco rubberized thin slip-over protective case. This thin package actually fits into my trousers pocket.
