Jim, I have this lens and love it. I am anxiously awaiting the upgrade that will allow me to use my 2x Mark III extender with AF (when shooting in good light). For now it has to be manual and for my old eyes that is a bug-a-boo. The 5D Mark III and this lens are wonderful together.

    • I too have had this lens, not presently though; it was our go to lens for Football, Soccer, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, Polo Matches, and of course wild-life… It is one of Canon’s most popular lenses. I expect a new version of this lens later this year or perhaps next year.

I will likely know this lens really well before I replace it. I do want to get one for my husband so the new version will be just the ticket for him. I originally got into photography so I would have something to entertain me while he was off hunting and fishing….and then I told him I was actually ‘hunting’ with a camera, I just didn’t have to dress out the meat…and I could throw the little ones back to grow bigger and not hurt them. He is hooked now and is taking some wonderful wildlife photos.

I will watch for the new version of the lens.
